Final plans for the £50m redevelopment of a rundown corner of a Berkshire town have been unveiled.

Reading's new civic centre is planned for the site of the town market. A new theatre and library are also part of the proposed development.

Maintenance costs and health and safety issues led to the decision to relocate the existing 1970s council offices.

The plans will be submitted to the council's planning applications committee next week.

A final decision is due to be made in April. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.
