Warning over drain cover thefts
Residents in a Berkshire town are being urged to be vigilant following a spate of thefts of drain covers from roads.

About 30 covers have been stolen in the Britwell area of Slough over the past few days, Thames Valley Police said.

It is believed the drain covers, which are made from high-value metal, are being sold as scrap.

The borough council, which has replaced the stolen gully covers, has told Berkshire scrap metal merchants to look out for anyone trying to sell them.

Chf Insp Dave Parker, of Thames Valley Police, said: "This is a potentially serious crime, which could result in injuries to people or cause damage to vehicles.

"We are particularly keen to hear from any scrap metal yards who have received manhole covers."
