Cinema to boost town's business

Work to pave the way for the building of a new seven-screen cinema in the heart of a Berkshire town is to start in early 2008.

It is to be constructed in Newbury's emerging 'cultural quarter' near Kennet Centre shopping complex.

Thames Water has started to relocate a sewer that runs under the development site before building begins.

West Berkshire Council said the cinema should be a huge boost for the local economy, traders and businesses.

The Mall Cheap Street surface level car park is to be closed from 28 January as construction starts.

The southbound lane on Cheap Street will also be closed.

The council said the cinema should open at the end of 2009.
