Classes given to speeding drivers
Motorists caught in a police speed check in Berkshire were given the chance to attend a speed awareness class.

Thames Valley Police said they set up two road checks in response to concerns raised by local neighbourhood action groups about speeding drivers.

They caught 48 drivers exceeding the 30mph limit on two roads in Bracknell.

Those whose speeds were 39mph and less could attend a £74 class or pay a fine of £60 and get three penalty points.

However, those caught doing between 40mph and 49mph did not have any options and were fined. One person caught doing above 50mph is being prosecuted in court.

Learning experience

Pc Bob Wade said: "It is disappointing to find so many motorists who completely ignore the speed limits.

"It is clearly a high priority for police action by residents on these roads.

"Those fortunate enough to be offered the speed awareness course should take up the offer and use it as a learning experience and adjust their future driving habits."

One check was done in the Ringmead in Birch Hill, Bracknell and the other was on the B3022 Bracknell Road in the area of the junction with Cocks Lane in Maidens Green.
