Roadside checks for speeding cars
Motorists have been caught speeding at a Berkshire accident black-spot after police set up road checks following complaints from concerned residents.

Thirty-four drivers were stopped for exceeding the 30mph speed limit on Nine Mile Ride in Wokingham on Thursday.

The checks - by police and Wokingham Borough Council - were made every three and a half hours at two sites near the village of Finchampstead.

Nine drivers were fined £60 and 25 were cautioned in the sting, police said.

'Number of collisions'

A further 15 people were stopped for speeding on Finchampstead Road.

Pc Julian Weal, from Thames Valley Police, said: "These events were held after we received numerous complaints about speeding vehicles from residents in Finchampstead.

"Although the speed limit on these roads is 30mph, we have had a number of collisions resulting in injury in the past three years.

"Hopefully, this will help make this area safer for both local residents and motorists in the future."
