Homes evacuated over shop blaze
Sixteen people had to flee their homes overnight as fire crews battled a huge blaze at a building in Berkshire.

The fire at Shifford Crescent in Maidenhead on Tuesday night affected the Budgens supermarket and the apartments upstairs.

It took fire crews about five hours to bring the blaze under control. No one was injured but five flats had to be evacuated by police officers.

Part of Switchback Road and Shifford Crescent have been cordoned off.

Most of the people who had to leave their homes found alternative places to stay but and three people had to be housed in emergency accommodation.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
