Plans to enlarge the Madejski Stadium, home to Premiership Reading Football Club, have come a step closer.

The club's chief executive has confirmed that the planning application for the expansion will be submitted to Reading Borough Council this week.

Nigel Howe said that if approval was given then preliminary work could start in the close season.

Eventually the capacity of the 24,000 seat stadium will be upped to between 37,000 and 38,000.
