'Super-care home' plan for town

Councillors in a Berkshire town have revealed plans to build a new 120-bed care home.

Slough Borough Council has described the planned "super-care home" as an environment that will cater for an ageing population.

About 90 of the beds will be for older people on a new site in Wexham to replace two out-of-date care homes.

Last year the council announced plans to build more than 100 homes for elderly residents on two sites.

The council has said it is still to agree on a company to build and manage the care home.

Care homes in Knolton Way and Newbeech House in the Britwell area will be replaced.

Dawn Warwick, council community and cultural services director, said: "Slough also has an increasing demand for nursing home places and this new facility will provide extra nursing places for local residents."

Councillor Derek Crier said: "Slough has an ageing population and in the future more residents may need our help.

"This new facility will provide more beds and a better range of facilities in a state of the art brand new environment."
