Seven people have been arrested during a protest at a nuclear weapons factory.

More than 30 campaigners took part in the demonstration, organised by Block the Builders, at Aldermaston, Berks.

The A340 was closed when two protesters chained themselves to a concrete-lined wheelie bin. Others attached themselves to the inside of factory pipes.

Campaigners said they were angry at the government's decision to give the go-ahead to a new system to replace Britain's existing Trident submarines.

Thames Valley Police said one person was arrested for theft and six others for public order offences.

Officers spent two hours removing protesters from the site but some roads in the area were still closed.
