Beckett event money handed over
Thousands of pounds raised during an event to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Samuel Beckett is being handed over to a cancer charity.

The event at Reading Town Hall in April featured well known actors, such as Jude Law and Alan Rickman, performing excerpts from the writer's work.

More than £22,000 was donated and on Tuesday the money will be given to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity said the cash would be used to help fund a benefits advice service.
