Terror police raid internet cafes
Police searched two internet cafes and seized equipment in connection with the alleged plot to blow up aircraft.

Officers have confirmed they searched two cafes in Slough, Berkshire, on Thursday 10 August, as part of the "counter-terrorist operation".

Thames Valley Police refused to reveal which premises had been raided or what equipment had been seized.

But police said there was "no intelligence to suggest there is any specific terrorist threat" in the area.

Another internet cafe - the Asian Spice cafe, in Reading - was also raided on Thursday.

Asian Spice owner Saleem Cheema said six hard drives and data CDs were taken by police.

Ch Supt Brian Langston said extra officers had now been drafted in to guard against any "misguided backlash" in Slough.

"Police in Berkshire east are understandably concerned that members of faith communities are not targeted as a result of recent national and international events.

"Extra officers were deployed last week to reassure the public and to provide a highly visible police presence at key locations such as places of worship, bus and railway stations, but these additional patrols have now been scaled down."
