Station plan set to be approved
Reading railway station
The station is itself set for redevelopment in 2008
The first of several ambitious plans for the redevelopment of Reading's town centre is expected to be approved at a meeting on Wednesday.

Proposals for a 22-storey apartment block on Station Approach will go before Reading Borough Council's planning committee.

It comes just days after Reading FC chairman John Madejski paid nearly 28m for the nearby Station Hill site.

The station itself is planned for a major redevelopment in 2008.

A Reading Borough Council spokesman said: "Our strategic vision for the area has been to improve that whole area, and improve links to the north.

"At the moment it's not an attractive sight for people getting off at the train station."

The station is scheduled for redevelopment in 2008, coinciding with planned signal and track work carried out by Network Rail.
