Top officer to judge Nobel Prize

Mr Neyroud has several works on criminology published
The most senior police officer in the Thames Valley has been appointed to help choose the first ever Nobel Prize for criminology.

Chief Constable Peter Neyroud will join the panel of judges in Sweden to name the person whose work has done the most to develop the understanding of crime.

Nominations must be made by October 31, with the award in June 2006.

Mr Neyroud said: "It is a great honour." Mr Neyroud has had work published on policing and ethics.

The Swedish government chose Mr Neyroud after he chaired a police performance meeting in Philadelphia.

He is the only police officer on the jury containing leading professors and academics from around the globe.
