Elderly couple hurt in collision

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road collision which left an elderly couple badly injured.

The couple's car, a Robin Reliant, was in collision with a Ford Escort at the junction of Coronation Square and Southcote Lane in Reading, Berkshire.

The crash happened at about 0900 BST on Thursday. The couple, in their 70s, are now in a stable condition in hospital.

The arrested man was taken to Reading police station to be interviewed while inquiries continue.
