Bodies of six dead swans stolen in Bedfordshire

The bodies of six dead mute swans have been stolen from the bank of a Bedfordshire fishing lake.

They were found on the banks of the Dovecote fishing lake at Willington gravel pits near Bedford on Saturday. But the bodies were gone by Sunday.

Police are appealing for fisherman from a fishing association who were in the area at the time to come forward.

Mark Thomas from the RSPB said: "This is a horrific incident that is not only illegal, but savage."

It is not clear how the swans died.
