IPCC told of arrested man's death

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been notified after a 51-year-old who was held following a car crash died in hospital.

Thames Valley Police arrested the man after the crash near Padbury, Bucks, on suspicion of drink-driving on Thursday.

He was later taken to hospital with chest pains and died on Friday.

The separate cases of a man and woman who were found dead earlier in the week after being released from custody were also passed on to the IPCC.

Chest pains

Police arrested the 51-year-old driver, who has not yet been named, following a three-car crash on the A413 near Padbury on Thursday afternoon.

The man, who had been driving a blue BMW involved in the incident, declined to be taken to hospital and after a breath test he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was taken to Aylesbury police station but shortly before he entered the building he complained of chest pains and was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital. He died on Friday morning.

The occupants of the other vehicles did not suffer any injuries and there have been no other arrests.

Thames Valley Police notified the IPCC as the man died within 24 hours of having been in contact with the police.

Police investigation

Supt Richard List, Aylesbury's police commander, said: "My thoughts are with the relatives of the man who so tragically died following this collision.

"A family liaison officer has been appointed, who is assisting the family in this very traumatic time."

The IPCC was also informed after Marilyn Bowden, 53, of Brockhurst Road, Chesham, was found dead on Berkhamsted Road on 7 November after having recently been released from police custody.

And on Monday a man's body was found at an address in Springfields, Padbury.

The 47-year-old man had been released from Aylesbury police station on Sunday after being held as part of an investigation into an assault.

The case was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), but it ruled Thames Valley Police should investigate.
