Released woman later found dead

A 53-year-old woman has been found dead on a road after being released from police custody in Buckinghamshire.

The woman was found on Berkhamsted Road, Chesham, on Saturday morning.

Thames Valley Police said it had notified the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) because she had been in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Vince Grey said although the death was being treated as "unexplained", officers did not think a third party was involved.

Det Ch Insp Grey added: "I am appealing for anyone who saw something suspicious along Berkhamstead Road in Chesham on Friday night or early on Saturday morning to come forward."

The body has not yet been formally identified and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
