Man in court on axe attack charge

A man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged over an axe attack at Bedford Hospital.

Derek Hunt, 46, of Beechdale Road, Bedford, was arrested on Thursday after cameras and security glass protecting the reception desk in the accident and emergency department were smashed.

He appeared before magistrates in Bedford charged with criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

Hunt will appear at Luton Crown Court on 4 December.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.
