A book of prayers and reflections for stressed commuters has been published by a retired Hertfordshire bishop. The Rt Rev Christopher Herbert, former Bishop of St Albans, wrote Pocket Prayers for Commuter, to combat the "turbulence" of the working day. In spite of the hassle of commuting on roads or public transport in morning and evening rush hours, real peace is "waiting to be found", he said. Mr Herbert has recorded an extract from the book as a podcast. In the introduction, he said: "Suppose that God himself is actually present with you, waiting to be discovered as the still, small voice hidden inside all the turbulence that you and your fellow-commuters face each day? "It is not a fanciful thought. "There is plenty of evidence in the Bible, and in the lives of Christians, that people under stress have found that God really is present with them, even in the most demanding or the unlikeliest circumstances."
