Council considers hospital plans

Lister Hospital
Plans are being considered to redevelop the Lister Hospital

Plans to redevelop a major hospital in Hertfordshire are to be considered by councillors later.

Stevenage Borough Council will look at plans for a new multi-storey car park and changes to the accident and emergency ward at Lister Hospital.

The NHS has applied to redevelop the hospital site in five phases.

The site redevelopment would include extending the children's and maternity wing and a new block with surgical theatres and critical care wards.

The Highways Agency said road improvements would have to be made to cope with anticipated increases in traffic.

The development has been recommended for approval by borough planning officers.
