Stormy weather causes power cuts

An electricity company is blaming stormy weather for a power cut to nearly 3,000 homes in Cambridgeshire.

Supplies were interrupted to customers in the Fulbourn area just after midday because of a fault on the overhead distribution lines.

EDF Energy said it was "caused by the stormy weather" but engineers restored power to 443 homes by mid-afternoon.

"They are working to restore supplies to the remaining customers as quickly as possible," a spokeswoman said.

"We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident," she added.
