A cyclist failed to stop after crashing into a three-year-old boy and leaving him badly injured, said police.

The toddler suffered lacerations to his head, lost teeth, received numerous grazes to his face and his elbow was sprained and swollen, police said.

He was hit by the bike in an underpass between Netherfield and Milton Keynes Hospital, where he was taken for treatment on Monday morning.

The cyclist is an Asian man, aged 35 to 40, about 5ft 8ins tall, and slim.

Police said he has short black, untidy hair, a black moustache and a closely-trimmed beard.

He was wearing a brown waist-length jacket and blue jeans.

The bike was a red mountain bike, which is likely to be damaged.

Pc Andy Pearce said: "The boy's family are understandably shocked and upset at this incident and have been left very distressed.

"It is understood that a number of people witnessed the collision. They may have vital information to help with our enquiries.

"I am also urging the cyclist to come forward or contact the police."
