Inquest opens into swimmer death

Bedfordshire police have warned of the dangers of swimming in rivers and lakes

An inquest has opened into the death of a man who got in to trouble swimming in a lake in Bedfordshire.

Gary Stevens, 30, of Priestley Farm, Flitwick, Bedfordshire, died after he was rescued from a lake in Willow Way, Ampthill, on Saturday evening.

He was taken to the Bedford Hospital South Wing, and pronounced dead on arrival.

The inquest in Bedford heard the cause of death was immersion. The hearing was adjourned to a date yet to be fixed.
