Man held after police fire round

A man has been arrested in connection with a firearms offence, after a police armed response unit discharged a baton round in an incident in Hertford.

Police were called to Windsor Drive in the town at about 2000 BST on Saturday to reports of a man with a firearm.

Police said: "Following negotiations with the man to hand over the firearm, officers discharged a baton round."

A 57-year-old man was arrested and taken to the QEII Hopsital, Welwyn Garden City, but later discharged.

He is currently being interviewed by detectives, said Hertfordshire Police.

Assistant Chief Constable of Hertfordshire Police, Heather Valentine, said: "Our officers responded quickly to an incident which posed as a significant threat to the public and worked amicably and safely to tackle a situation which is thankfully rare in Hertfordshire.

"The safety of the public was at the forefront of their consideration."
