Airport in £1 drop-off charging

Luton Airport
The £1 charge was due to be introduced in May

A £1 charge for people dropping passengers off at Luton Airport has been introduced.

The scheme was due to be introduced in May but was delayed because more research needed to be done, said an airport spokeswoman.

The airport is the first in the country to introduce such fees.

It is being brought in to reduce congestion, and the airport has said people can avoid the charge using a drop off area further away.

Passengers being dropped off in the free area will need to get a non-charging shuttle bus to reach the terminal.

Last year the airport brought in a £1 fee to use its trolleys and for clear plastic bags to take liquids through security.
