Man in court on 1989 rape charge

A 50-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the rape of a woman in Bedford 20 years ago.

Robert Saint, of Barkers Lane, Bedford, is also charged with indecent assault and false imprisonment.

The charges relate to an incident in Priory Country Park on 5 January 1989 when a 21-year-old woman was attacked as she walked back to her car.

Mr Saint appeared at Luton Crown Court and was remanded in custody until a hearing on 6 February to take his plea.

He was told his trial is expected to begin on 22 June.
