A man has died after being stabbed in Bedford town centre.

The victim, thought to be 19, was found seriously injured outside a pub in the town on Saturday night.

Bedfordshire Police said they received reports of an assault in Alexandra Road at 2114 GMT. The victim was taken to Bedford Hospital where he died.

The attack is believed to have happened between the West Indian Club and the Studio Club, where the victim himself raised the alarm.

Detectives from Bedfordshire Police's major crime unit sealed off a part of Alexandra Road while forensic officers carried out a detailed search.

The victim has not yet been identified, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out later.

A Bedfordshire Police spokeswoman said a "full forensic examination" was continuing.
