Driver questioned after man dies

A motorist is being questioned after a pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a silver Daewoo car in Bedfordshire.

Police believe the 19-year-old victim was struck on Shillington Road, Lower Stondon, on Monday evening, walking to get help after his car had broken down.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and driving while disqualified. He is currently at Dunstable Police Station.

The dead man will not be identified until an inquest is opened.

Inspector Colin Bonner, from the collision investigation unit said: "We know that this young man was walking alone in the direction of Lower Stondon when he was struck.

"However, we believe he would have been walking for up to 30 minutes prior to the collision as he was some distance from his car and it's possible other motorists may have seen him.

"If you were driving along Shillington Road between and saw this young man, please contact the police."
