Girl hit by van seriously injured

A 12-year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital after she was hit by a van in Hertfordshire, police said.

The girl was struck on Six Hills Way, Stevenage, just after 0800 BST and taken to hospital in Cambridge.

Det Con Denise Rayner, of Hertfordshire Police, said: "We believe there were a number of people who were walking nearby or waiting at bus stops.

"I am appealing to these people, or anyone who believes they may have seen this incident, to contact me."
