A teenage girl's leg became impaled on 6ft high railings when she tried to climb a metal fence in Bedfordshire.
The girl fell onto the fence near Northcroft on the High Street in Sandy on Sunday evening.
A crew from Bedfordshire Fire Service could not use specialist equipment to cut the girl free as they feared it may have injured her further.
A spokeswoman said: "Firefighters had to hold the girl up and cut through the metal using a hacksaw."
She added: "Although firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving a 999 call at 1911 BST it took until nearly 2100 BST to release her from the railing.
"Power tools could not be used because of the vibration they cause - the jolting could have caused further injury to the girl's leg."
