A distinctive car used to steal money from a cash machine in Bedfordshire has been stained with a red dye.
Three men forced open the rear doors of the Co-op shop in Mill Road, Cranfield, on Thursday night, broke a cash machine and took a cash box from inside.
As they drove off down the High Street in an orange Ford Focus the dye was released from the cash box, staining the money and the car's interior.
Police have urged garages in the area to contact them if they see the car.
Pc Richard Jones said: "This car would have looked quite a sight with red smoke pouring from the windows and we need to locate anyone who saw it on the night, or has seen it since.
"It's also possible people may recall seeing someone come home with their hands, face or clothes covered in this red dye, or has been offered notes stained in a similar way."
He appealed for anyone with information to contact Bedfordshire Police.
