A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a driver whose headless and handless body was found dumped in Hertfordshire.

Traveller John Finney, 42, is thought to have been abducted from his vehicle in Northaw on 29 February. His body was found in Ickleford on 14 March.

He was identified partly by the tattoos on his body.

Mark Curran, 28, of Barnet in Hertfordshire, was remanded in custody by Hemel Hempstead magistrates.

Mr Finney's Mitsubishi Pajero was found abandoned in Park Farm, Northaw, Hertfordshire.

A post-mortem examination was unable to establish the cause of Mr Finney's death.

He and his family were well-known within the travelling community, police said.

The investigation has been carried out by the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.
