Scaffold death son tells of fall
John Robinson
John Robinson died three days after the scaffolding collapsed
The son of a carpenter, who died after scaffolding he was working on in high winds collapsed, has told an inquest how they fell to the ground together.

John Robinson, 49, was working at the site of a hotel in Milton Keynes when the 15-storey structure gave way.

He died three days later when deep vein thrombosis caused a heart attack.

His son Mark, injured in the collapse in 2006, told the Milton Keynes inquest he could hear his father calling out as he drifted in and out of consciousness.

Mr Robinson had been working alongside his father fitting tiles to the outside of the Jury's Inn hotel in April 2006.

Heavy tiles

He said: "I heard boards sliding, I started to fall - the next thing I know I'm on the floor.

"I kept going in and out of consciousness, I could hear my father calling me but I couldn't see him."

The inquest had earlier heard how 95 of the heavy tiles had been stored on the scaffold - a weight of 1.5 tonnes - and that the scaffold was not designed to take that kind of load.

The jury was told to consider whether the scaffolding was properly constructed to British safety standards and whether there were extreme weather conditions on the day it collapsed.

A video by the Health and Safety Executive showing the basics of scaffold construction has also been shown at the inquest.

The inquest continues.
