A scheme to remodel and expand a library in Herts has been awarded £1.4m from the National Lottery.
Hertfordshire County Council has been awarded money for the Oxhey branch from the Big Lottery Fund for Community Libraries.
The expanded library will include more space for a range of community activities, including an extended homework club and computer classes.
It will also provide space for the development of a community archive.
The South Oxhey Community Libraries Project will run over three years.
Keith Emsall, executive member for education and culture on the council, said: "Libraries are increasingly taking on a much wider role in local communities than ever before.
"It is important that the services they provide are able to meet local needs, interests and aspirations."
It is anticipated that the new library will open to the public in the summer of 2009.
