A Metropolitan Police inspector has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of his wife.

Garry Weddell, 47, is accused of murdering his wife Sandra, 44, who was found in the garage of their home in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, on 31 January.

Post-mortem tests show a cable tie was used to strangle her.

Mr Weddell, who has been a police officer for 25 years, appeared at Luton Crown Court but no date was set for him to re-appear.

It is expected that he will be back in court at the end of September for the charge to be put to him.

Judge John Bevan QC said: "This is not a straight-forward case and it will take quite some time before it is ready for trial."
