Britain's oldest woman, who lived in a nursing home in Bedfordshire, has died aged 111.

Emmeline Brice, who lived at Elm Lodge Nursing home in Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, died on 26 July.

She became the country's oldest person on 1 March this year when 112-year-old Judy Ingamells died.

She had lived in London, where she had worked as a cleaner at the House of Commons. The manager of the nursing home Lyn Searle paid tribute to her.

"Emmeline was a legend. She was very much loved and is now very missed," she said on Wednesday.
