A £750,000 project to improve a Buckinghamshire Park has been given the go-ahead by councillors.

About one million people a year visit Higginson Park in Marlow, but now some of the facilities need to be upgraded.

Planners have given the green light for improvements such as replacing the 20-year-old play area and planting more trees and shrubs.

New toilets and a cafe are to built as part of the project, which is being funded by Wycombe District Council.

Councillor David Carroll said: "Higginson Park is an important attraction for local residents and visitors to the area.

"It is imperative that we retain the character of the park whilst maintaining it for generations to come and I believe that this project will do just that."

Higginson Park was awarded a Green Flag Award in 2006, which recognises excellence in park management.
