More than 100 firefighters have tackled a blaze which destroyed a superstore on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
A senior fire officer described the blaze in the Co-op store at Houghton Regis near Luton as one of the biggest in Bedfordshire for some years.
Crews were still at the scene on Thursday but the cause of the fire has not yet been established. An inquiry will be carried out, the officer said.
The village's community centre nearby was also severely damaged.
