Landfill site extension rejected

Campaigners against extending the life of a landfill site in Bedfordshire have welcomed a rejection of the plans.

Permission to put another layer of waste on top of the site at Brogborough, near Ampthill, has been turned down by Beds County Council.

Sue Clark, one of the local campaigners against the plan, said she hoped this would be the end of the scheme.

But Waste Recycling Group, behind the plan, said it was looking at its options, which could include an appeal.

The plan was rejected by councillors on Thursday.
