Milton Keynes growth is seen as a threat to Bedfordshire villages
The rapid growth of Milton Keynes may see the city overspill into the county of Bedfordshire, it is feared.

Councillors in Bedfordshire have been told greater protection is needed for towns and villages near the new city.

The council's executive committee has asked for measures to safeguard the character communities threatened by the expansion of Milton Keynes.

Cabinet member for planning and growth, John Scott said: "Milton Keynes growth must not cross east of the M1."

Several consultations have taken place with people living in Bedfordshire close to the M1 motorway but fears still persist.

Councillor Scott said: "I want Bedfordshire communities and residents of Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands to be consulted about the plans again.

"The previous consultation process by the Milton Keynes Partnership did not allow enough time to put their views forward.

"It is important that Bedfordshire communities close to Milton Keynes have their futures safeguarded and their separate identity protected."
