Dozens of uninsured cars crushed
Uninsured car
In less than a month 50 vehicles have been seized and destroyed
Uninsured cars are being seized and crushed by police using the latest technology to catch drivers who should not be on the road.

More than 50 vehicles have been crushed by the Hertfordshire force since the beginning of August.

A number plate recognition system set up at the roadside can immediately identify if a car is insured or not.

Vehicles are taken from drivers without the right documents and those not reclaimed within a week can be crushed.

The driver will also be taken to court where they could be fined or sentenced to a prison term.
