Harvey denied assaulting the police officer
So Solid Crew rapper Harvey has been ordered to do 150 hours of community service for assaulting a Hertfordshire police officer in January.

Michael Junior Harvey was sentenced at St Albans Magistrates Court after being convicted last month of assaulting Pc Keith Harron in Welwyn Garden City.

Pc Harron had tried to stop him using his mobile phone while driving.

Harvey, 26, had pleaded guilty earlier to driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was also banned from driving for nine months and ordered to pay a total of 815.

Sentencing Harvey District Judge Alistair Perkins said: "You are clearly a very talented person with a bright future ahead of you.

Good work

"The police officer is a public servant, he is entitled to look to the courts for protection and I intend to make sure that officer will get that protection."

Kevin Cobham, defending, told the court that Harvey had done much good work in his local community, including work with the Prince's Trust and visited local schools and sixth-form colleges to promote good citizenship.

On leaving the court Harvey, who is due to marry Alesha Dixon of R&B act Mis-Teeq this Saturday, said his sentence was suitable for the assault.

"I will get on with my community punishment and get back to reality.

"I have learned my lesson and it is a bad example to kids. You live and learn, everyone makes mistakes in life, I won't be the first celebrity to get into trouble.

"You can't make one rule for one and one for everyone else."

Challenge to officers

Harvey was arrested on 17 January in Howardsgate, Welwyn Garden City, when he was spotted using his mobile phone while driving.

Pc Harron followed his black Volkswagen four-wheel drive car waiting for a safe place to stop Harvey.

But the So Solid Crew star, the court heard, stopped in the middle of the road and got out of the car to challenge the officers about why they were following him.

During a shouting match between Harvey and Pc Harron, the singer was arrested for the public order offence but grabbed the officer's collar as he tried to restrain him.

Pc Harron sprayed the singer twice in the face with CS gas to arrest him.
