A teenage girl was shot between the eyes with an air rifle as she talked to friends in a public park.
Bedfordshire Police said the 16-year-old needed hospital treatment to remove the pellet - although she was not severely injured in the attack.
The incident took place at about 2220 BST on Friday at Wardown Park, Luton.
Officers said the girl had been with friends in the children's play area. They appealed for witnesses and for the air rifle owner to come forward.
