Parish protests over gay cleric
Jeffrey John
Dr John comes under pressure to step down
A parish in Bedfordshire is withholding thousands of pounds from diocese funds in protest at the appointment of a gay cleric as Dean of St Albans.

Canon Jeffrey John has the full support of the cathedral but his appointment has provoked a storm of protest from Anglican conservatives.

St Peter and St Paul's Church in Cranfield is the second Church of England parish to withold money.

Last May Dr John bowed to pressure by rejecting the post of Bishop of Reading

Since then, the first openly gay bishop has been consecrated in New Hampshire in the US.
