Meeting over Stanhope town centre's future

Residents in a rural County Durham town are being asked for their views on the future of the area.

The county council wants to improve traffic management in Stanhope town centre and introduce measures to cater for increased numbers of visitors.

A meeting will be held St Thomas Church Hall on the afternoon of 25 May.

There will also be an update on the progress of the ambitious "thermal spa" eco-village development at the nearby Eastgate site.

The £100m development at the former Lafarge cement works was approved in September 2009 and will include new homes and a hotel.
