School system will combat truancy


A school in Portsmouth is hoping to reduce the amount of truancy in the city, which has the fourth highest truancy rate in England. It has an automatic system for contacting parents if their children are absent from class.

Figures show 8% of pupils are "persistent absentees" in Portsmouth, and in nearby Southampton the figures is only 1% lower.
