Fresh snowfalls bring disruption

Snow and ice brought travel disruption to eastern parts of Kent and Sussex on Wednesday evening.

Kent Police said many drivers were taking hours to get home because of bad weather conditions.

The A20 at Capel-le-Ferne near Folkestone was partially blocked coastbound at Round Hill Tunnel, causing congestion on the M20.

Drivers in Hastings reported abandoning their cars in St Helen's Down after sliding on the ice.

Earlier there were also reported delays of up to an hour on rail services between Ramsgate and Dover Priory, and between Ramsgate and Ashford International, as a result of poor weather conditions and a broken-down train at Wye.

Sussex Police said most the county remained unaffected, although ice in the far east of the county had been a factor in some accidents.
