Footage shows near miss on Black Country level crossing

A pedestrian risks his life at Langley Green level crossing near Oldbury

CCTV of a pedestrian risking his life on a level crossing in the Black Country has been released by Network Rail as part of a shock campaign.

The footage, taken at Langley Green on Monday, shows a man running across tracks moments before a train passes.

The campaign also targets Blakedown level crossing near Kidderminster, Worcs, which has seen "a number" of incidents over the past two years.

Some 12 people were killed at level crossings in 2009, and 15 in 2008.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "The statistics for accidents at level crossings make chilling reading and almost all are caused by motorist or pedestrian misuse.

"We will have no hesitation in prosecuting any offenders who think they can take a chance."
