Immigrant centre opposed by force

Sussex Police has opposed plans to convert a four star hotel at Gatwick Airport into a third immigrant removal centre because it says it would mean too much extra work.

There are already two other centres at the airport and the force said officers had been called to incidents there on almost 200 occasions between March and August.

Supporters of the plans said they would help to meet an urgent need for more detention space.
