Driver rescued from cliff plunge

An 83-year-old driver had to be rescued when her car went over a cliff in Dorset.

The car travelled 150ft (46m) down the cliff before coming to a halt in gorse bushes.

The accident happened at Highcliffe, near Christchurch, shortly before 1030 BST on Sunday.

Fire crews were called to the scene, near the Cliffhanger Restaurant, but by the time they arrived, passers-by had helped the elderly woman to safety.

Dorset Fire and Rescue managed to retrieve the car later.

The driver was taken to hospital although she was said not to be seriously hurt.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "She sustained a few scratches on her legs and was taken home by the ambulance service after treatment."
